This table shows the times of sunrise and sunset in London throughout the year.

(all the times are in decimal hours and GMT on a 24-hour clock)

Suggested activities:

  1. Copy and paste the data into a spreadsheet. Many spreadsheets will let you plot a graph of date vs. sunrise and sunset times.
  2. You could add two further rows using a spreadsheet, the day-time (the time difference between sunrise and sunset) and the night length. (Hint: day-time and night length add up to 24). You could then plot these against the date.

Questions to answer:

  1. When is the day longest?
  2. When is the day shortest?
  3. When is the day-time equal to the length of the night?
