A data table of the Nine Planets

Summary Information about the 9 planets.

This data can be copied and pasted into a spreadsheet and then the data can be used to produce some interesting graphs.

Possible graphs you could look at:

  • The distance from the Sun vs. the average temperature. (Which planet seems to be the odd one out? Where would a planet have to be for its average temperature to be zero 0C?)

  • The distance from the Sun vs. the time for 1 orbit. (N.B. the time for 1 orbit will have to be converted into days or years but cannot be left as a mixture)

  • The diameter of the planet vs. the number of moons. (Do you think there is a connection or is it just random?)

Planet

Diameter (km)

Distance to Sun (million km)

Time for 1 orbit (planet's 'year')

Time for 1 spin (planet's 'day') (hours)

Average temperature on sunny side (0C)
